Opening / unzipping files from encrypted zips?

Hi All,

I use SyncBackSE (2brightsparks.com/syncback/sbse.html) to perform various backups, all of which end up in an automatically created, encrypted zip file for each month (so, all of April's backups end up in a file called 200704.zip, March's in 200703.zip etc).

It appears SBSE uses a zip mode that is compatible with WinZip, since WinZip can extract files from the zip files that SBSE creates.

With DOpus, however, I can navigate into the zip files - all of the filenames show up in green in these zip files, which I assume indicates that DOpus is aware they're encrypted - but it doesn't appear that DOpus knows how to decrypt them. Attempting to, for example, drag and drop a file outside the zip displays a 'Zip Error 42' error message. Right-clicking on, say, a text file and selecting 'Open' from the menu simply opens a blank file with that name in a text editor (though, no error message with this method).

The problem appears to exist when using WinZip to natively create encrypted zip files - DOpus doesn't appear to know how to decrypt these files either.

Does anyone else experience this at all?

All the best,

pt

It's possible that the zips use AES* encryption which has only quite recently come into use in some zip programs. Many zip programs and libraries, I think including the one which Opus uses, don't support it, unfortunately.

(*I might have the wrong name there.)

More than one year after, DOpus still doesn't open AES encrypted zip files many backup programs are creating ..

Is it planned to be added ? that could be a very nice feature

Thanks
