Option to show 1 parent in Folder Tabs

This suggestion is a bit out there, I know... but it would help. I like Folder Tabs a lot.

When you have a common sub folder arrangement in your workflow, say you have a project PSYDUCK with subfolders like html, images, doc, etc and you are working on a new project ASTROCAT and want to copy some of the elements of PSYDUCK you end up with Folder Tabs named [images] and [images].

It would be nice to have the option to retain 1 level of parent in the folder tab names so that they would be [PSYDUCK\images] and [ASTROCAT\images].

I know that you can just edit the name of the Folder Tab yourself, and sometimes I do, but it fixes it to a certain name and never changes when I move directories leading to even more confusion.

  • option to show parent\subdir in folder tabs
  • maybe right click context menu show 1 parent in tab name?
  • option to customise Folder Tab names to be like you can with the Status Bar text?

While you are about it, there are options to regulate the width of tabs. When the end of the string is more important than the start of the string, you should display it right justified. Perhaps some justification options can accompany the +1 parent option?

Thank you for your consideration,
Trev

Wow @lxp that seems to be doing 99% of what I want. I don't know if I want it on all the time, but for the moment I am really liking it! Solution accepted! Thanks!

Another possible solution could be the "Tab-Labelizer":

It's a script addin to handle and customize the tab labels, it has not been updated for some time and it probably is not 100% perfect, but it still works well enough, also for other than local paths (ftp or UNC like "\server\share" e.g.).
