I suspect hat it slows down my system siginicantly after booting. It almost takes two minutes on my otherwise very fast machine, until Opus starts up, while some other startup applications also will open only after Opus is up (this part is most likely a Windows' issue). Not long ago it took only i few seconds for my standard programs to start.
If it can be turned off, i'd only activate it occasionally to update the database.
Hmm, what else could it be then? Thanks, i will try to investigate. I have the very same applications reinstalled here, so i have no idea why that happens.
The cache building is done completely in the background, and usually takes less than 10 seconds, so it's very unlikely you'd notice a delay like that in startup.
You can turn it off altogether from Preferences / Miscellaneous / Advanced: [Behavior] prefs_prebuild_search_index if you want.
Oh I had assumed you disabled the setting mentioned by PassThePeas (and subsequently Jon). If you didn't then I gues you can just update it and that's enough.
Possibly the fast boot option is deactivated, and the energy options are not accessible in the way depicted below. So i've used the proper Powershell command to activate "Hiberboot", and will see after my next boot, if that solved the problem.
The problem is fixed now. Fast Boot was off by default, obviously. That's how my Windows 11 Pro was shipped. And i had almost completely forgotten that there's also a slow boot mode. The difference is vast. Thanks guys!
It is harmless, but Fast Startup is notorious for causing general computer malfunctions. So if you're not having any problems, you can leave it on. I like it disabled though because with Fast Startup on, Windows isn't actually shut down when you choose Shut Down. Instead, it puts Windows into a Hibernation state (it only does this to Windows though; the user session is shut down). Windows should be restarted regularly, and so with Fast Startup enabled, the only way Windows gets restarted is if you choose Restart. Being restarted for an update isn't 100% clean.
Yeah, Hardkorn, i remember having read a couple of times that there can be a downside too. On the other hand i had it on for many years and didn't experience any problems. And yes, i do restarts frequently, like every few days, so that any code sludge should be washed away, in case there is any.
