Opus 10 and RAR / ZIP Files

Opus 10 and RAR / ZIP Files

Initial use of Opus 10 is to review and publish product review / recommendation on it for regional and international audience.

QUESTIONS:

 1. Are there any newer RAR and ZIP file viewer plug-ins that allow non-password protected / protected RAR and ZIP files to be viewed for their file contents?

So far, Opus 10 Viewer only shows Hex or Text content, and I was under the impression that Opus 10 "improved" on the default viewing of most compressed files, including the most used file types ?

Under Preferences, have also checked the Viewer Plug-In list, and see no reference to RAR and ZIP at all for now.

 1. Also, it seems that getting new or updated Opus plug-ins is a bit harder to fathom. One might think that the process me made a lot easier or more direct, especially for new-to-Opus users.

Perhaps a direct to a single URL page that would list all the current plug-ins and allow selection of the needed ones ?

The viewer isn't for listing archive contents; instead you can go inside archives as if they were normal folders.

Double-click an archive, or select it in the folder tree, to go inside it.

You can also hold Shift, Ctrl or Alt when you double-click to do different things. e.g. Open the archive in a new window, new folder tab or in the other side of a dual-display window.

(FWIW, the viewer actually will show listings of zip files using Internet Explorer. It's more a bonus feature than something we planned to do, but since we're using IE to display HTML in the viewer it was easy enough to do the same with zip. Since IE doesn't understand RAR, RAR can't be displayed in the viewer.)

Also note that when you are inside a zip file, treating it as a normal folder, you can view the files inside the zip file using the viewer. For example:

Opus 10 supports more archive types, and improves support of the existing types. But in the file display; the viewer is for viewing images, movies, documents etc. and not really intended for viewing folders/archives.

Look in the Zip & Other Archives part of Preferences, not the Viewer part. That's where archive plugins are found.

This is probably what you want (but note that I haven't updated it for Opus 10 yet so it is missing some new features/abilities that ship with opus 10):

Thank you VERY much for the excellent reply and the information was superb!

Might I recommend:
that the above information, or at least a summation, be ALSO placed into the Opus 10 Help file?

If it was, one would think that a great many users would like to know the above information.

Its inclusion right in the Help file, perhaps with a screen shot as above, would really round out an otherwise excellent Help file.
Doing so would save users a LOT of time, and head scratching -- and save YOU a lot of repeat explaining.
