Opus 10: searching xlsx, docx?

Why doesn't Opus 10 support newer version of MS-Office when using the Containing Text of Find? Thanks.

Use the integrated Windows Search for this. The syntax is the same as in Explorer.

(The Containing Text field does a plain-text search so it won't find things in compressed/encoded formats that Office uses, but Windows Search knows how to look inside those documents, and Opus 10 lets you use Windows Search, e.g. via the Search field at the top-right of the window.)

Sorry. I don't get what you said. Please show me how to use Windows Search by Opus. Thanks.

Use a search query like this: *.docx contents:"view mode" (screenshot below)

Note: I think it will only search contents for files which are indexed.

I followed your instructions. However, nothing happened after striking Enter key.

P.S. If I use Windows Search embedded by OS, I can find the files containing the text that I input.

Did you search from the same folder?

Are you using the default Opus 10 toolbars or old ones imported from Opus 9?

Yes.

I've tried both the default and imported toolbars, but the results are the same.

Sorry, I didn't realise we were talking about Windows XP.

Have you got Windows Search installed? It is not part of XP by default.

Have you got Windows Search configured to index your folders?

Note that the search in Explorer on XP does not use Windows Search AFAIK.

  1. It's part of XP Pro. My OS of computer is XP Pro SP3.
  2. I don't know how to configure the settings for indexing folders. As you can see from the first picture that I posted previously, Windows Search can find out the files which contains the texts I typed. Why doesn't it work in Opus?

I don't think that is Windows Search. That's Explorer, which AFAIK does not use Windows Search under XP (since Windows Search did not exist when that version of Explorer was made).

I might be wrong as I have only used Windows Search on Vista/Win7, but that's how I thought things were at least.

Sorry. My mistake.
I confused Windows Search with the search function of Explorer.
I'll try again after installing Windows Search.

But if you're happy with the results being returned by the regular Windows Explorer's "search" feature... then I would have thought Opus would be able to find those same strings without you having to install Microsoft's "Windows Search" package on XP.

If you goto Tools->Find Files in Opus... the Find Panel will open, and you can enter NSP680M4D2TRF into the Containing text field.

No, Opus's regular built-in regular Find tool doesn't know how to search inside Word documents. (They don't store their text in plain-text format.) The Search tool does, though.

After trying, Windows Search (including via Opus) and Explorer's Search function work well for finding xlsx and docx files containing specific text.
Thank you for helping me clear up my confusion about search issues.

How does that search query work?

Update Dec 2011: Microsoft, as is typical of them, broke one of the URLs above. They just can't leave useful information in one place for too long and I guess are still trying to understand the whole World Wide Web thing. But I found this page which looks useful:

windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/wind ... ows-search

Thanks leo.
I'll read up on it.

leo.
It doesn't mention anything about "contents" or "view mode".

"view mode" is the thing I was searching for in the contents. It's not part of the syntax.

I got the contents: keyword by trying stuff into Explorer's search field and seeing what turned blue. It was just a guess but it seems to work. The Windows Search query syntax documentation is pretty poor and incomplete, I agree.

Thanks leo.
