I use Steganos to create encrypted safes containing files. When the safes open, the safe usually shows up as another drive and I can do all the usual file tasks, such as save delete, move etc.
I have just upgraded Steganos to version 22.6.1 and they have changed the safe technology and it now encrypts the files in the safe individually (instead of the whole safe in one file), but the safe still opens in Windows Explorer as if it were a drive.
I have also just upgraded Opus to version 13.
Suddenly the Steganos safes are no longer always visible in Opus. However they are visible in Windows Explorer. Unfortunately this problem seems to be intermittent. There have been times when Opus does show the Steganos safe as a drive. Sometimes, or mostly, it doesn't appear at all, however.
I have tried File | Exit in Opus and restarting it, but it still does not show the Safe.
Nor does pressing F5.
Unfortunately because I upgraded both programs at the same time, I don't know whether it is the Steganos or Opus upgrade that is causing the problem.
Does anyone know the solution to this?
Thanks
Guern
Have you tried typing in the path to the drive when it doesn't appear? Or right-clicking one of its folders in File Explorer and using the option to open it in an Opus window?
That will test if Opus can access it at all. It may be that it's not being listed but can be accessed, or it may be that Opus can't see the drive at all for some reason (e.g. it might hide itself from most processes by default).
Hi Leo
I’m not at my PC right now, so can’t check those. But I did try copying a file from the safe drive in Windows Explorer to a directory in Opus and got a message something like Error unable to read the file location.

Hi Leo
- I'm not sure where I would "type in the path to the drive" within Opus as you suggest. However, I did paste the drive letter "K:" in the search box in Opus, and Opus didn't find anything.
- I did right click a folder in the K drive in File Explorer but there is no option to open it in Opus. That option only exists for individual files. I did it for a text file, though, with Opus closed, and Opus opened to show the whole directory that the file was in, together with the rest of the K drive!
Also, earlier today, I opened the safe in question, and could only see it within Windows File Explorer, not Opus. A long time later, I noticed that Opus could now see the K Drive. No idea when the change happened.
So Opus can "see the drive" but not immediately.
Any suggestions, please?

still have this issue
Sounds like an issue with the encrypted drive software, or something blocking Opus from accessing the drive.
Opus doesn’t know anything about Steganos or treat it differently to a normal drive. Things like reading directory listings and copying files are done via Windows APIs which should work with any drive type as long as the software implementing the drive follows the normal rules.
Thanks Leo
I thought that might be the case - Steganos' update was much bigger than Opus' and I've never had any problems with Opus (except understanding its complexity), and I don't know what I would do without it!
Let's close the query, please.

Thanks for giving me this link, fkast.
I think my solution will be to reverse my Steganos upgrade!

For the record, it may be possible that I was running Opus in "Elevated Mode", which means ADMINISTRATOR appears in top left corner of screen, and is usually a bad idea - refer posting
However, I have gone back to an older version of Steganos and can no longer check whether the problem still occurs.
