I seem to have discovered a ‘quirk’ in the behavior of Directory Opus which I suspect MAY be a ‘bug’ or perhaps it simply ‘supposed to be that way’. It might simply be some sort of weird problem with my particular system/installation but I figured I would report it. In this regard, I figure that the best way to try to do this might be to try to provide enough details to allow others to see if they can RE-CREATE THIS BEHAVIOR. Here goes:
First – ‘imagine’ you have a brand-new fresh instance of Directory Opus open on your desktop. And, to be consistent, assume you are using a pretty much probable default of ‘Explorer view’.
Second – in the Folder Tree panel of that instance, ‘imagine’/try to create a situation where you have – say – ‘Exploded’ the root directory on any given drive - IMPORTANT – CONTAINING ENOUGH *** SUBDIRECTORIES *** so is to cause that instance to have to ‘generate’ scrollbars – to allow/REQUIRE to scroll up and down – in order to see directories that might be ‘out of view’ at any particular point in time – i.e. too many to display – and again – SPECIFICALLY IN THE Folder Tree Subpanel!
Note: ENSURE that the total number of directories in that subpanel are at least ‘three times’ as many as necessary – in order to try to reproduce the that I have encountered on my system. With luck – I hope – will be able to reproduce problem.
Okay now – I will try to see if I can make this as clear as possible as it’s kind of weird:
‘Say’ there might be something like perhaps 50 or 60 SUBDIRECTORIES listed in the Folder Tree Subpanel, here is what ‘happens’ on my system:
*** if I should with my mouse – SELECT/highlight ANY FOLDER in that Big Long List in the Folder Tree – then, USING THE SCROLL WHEEL on my mouse, I CAN ‘scroll all the way down’ the entire list of all current all the subdirectories in that current subfolder.
HOWEVER: if – say – I should happen to SELECT/HIGHLIGHT – with my mouse – a Directory/Subfolder ‘sufficiently far down’ in that list AND THEN TRY TO SCROLL UPWARDS WITH MY MOUSE’S SCROLL WHEEL – AS SOON AS the point is reached where the Selected Subfolder WOULD HAVE TO SCROLL FURTHER DOWN *** AND VANISH/GO ‘OUT OF VIEW’ – my ability to CONTINUE TO SCROLL UP *** ANY FURTHER *** STOPS *** and the selected directory/subfolder kind of ‘bounces off’ every time scroll wheel tries to tell it to scroll down further…
In other words, in order to continue to scroll upwards using my Mouse’s scroll wheel – I HAVE TO DESELECT that folder and (one way at least) SELECT a folder ‘higher up in the list’ in order to continue scrolling upwards using the mouse wheel.
This seems to me to be kind of strange – shouldn’t there be some sort of ‘Symmetrical Behavior’ ‘both ways’?
Why can I ‘scroll down’ without any problems having selected folders vanish from view BUT – if a folder is ‘too far down’ and the list is sufficiently long – I CANNOT SCROLL BACK UP?
Anyway and obviously, one can work around this in many different ways but this behavior is kind of annoying. Is there a reason for this ‘behavioral asymmetry’ or might it be some kind of ‘bug’? Seems to me to be more likely the latter. CAN ANYONE REPRODUCE THIS? And, if so… Comments?
