If i have a movie with AC3 audio, should Opus display that in the Audio Codec column? All my AC3 movies have a blank for Audio Codec. I know these are AC3 files from other programs identifying them as such.

Opus gets the codec information from the Windows Media sub-system. If Explorer recognises the codec then Opus should too - what do you see if you do 'Properties' on the file (then click the Summary tab, Advanced)?
Hmmm, says "properties not available for selected source". Winmx and Gspot both identify it as AC3.
What now?
You may need to install an AC3 codec so that Windows Media Player & friends can recognise it. Can you hear the audio if you play the file in Windows Media Player?
Interesting... audio plays fine with WMP. I use Gspot to look at list of installed codecs, and the AC3 one says 'improperly registered" and some say "not registered".
I am guessing i need to reinstall. 2 questions:
Where can i find a quality codec pack with AC3?
How can i uninstall codecs and start from scratch?

ffdshow seems to include an AC3 decoder these days. I don't know if it's the best one or not, though.
I installed ac3 filter, and it shows up with Gspot as registered and installed, but Opus does not show AC3.
Something else, i lookead at the properties for another video file that Opus showed all codec data for , and it gave me the same message ....

I have tried 3 different AC3 filters. Opus would not recognize any of them. I finally settled on the KLite AC3 installation of it, and removed the others.
i like to keep track of the audio and video for my movies, so if anyone has any suggestions i would welcome them.
Do you have a small example movie you could send me to try with?
Jon, i could send you the entire file or try and split part of it out with Nero, i suppose. Never done it but i could try and then verify with Gspot that it is AC3.
Another issue, MPEG-2 video doesnt show up either, and i have MPEG-2 filter installed.
Something i liked about the Klite codec pack, it gives you the option of unistaling other codecs it includes so you dont duplicate codecs. Also, it checks for broken codecs and lets you clear those.
Let me know if you want a split file, sounds like that is the best. I will try it and have sample available.

here is a list of what Gspot says i have... looks like hell in this window, hope you can read it. I noticed that i have several AC3 filters and one says file missing. AC3 plays just fine.
Oh, and an option for the KLite pack was "container" filters. What is a container file and do i need container filters?
