Patches

Question, I have multi copies of OPUS, one I use at home with patches automatically. I also have a copy I use when at work on a PC i have restricted internet access to. Is there a downloadable patch to upgrade that version? I am win 7 64 bit at home, work changes depending on the client, but currently and for the next year or so I am 32 bit XP pro.

The latest stable release can always be downloaded from here:

Downloads for the latest beta release are always part of the release announcement:
blog.dopus.com/ or http://resource.dopus.com/viewforum.php?f=1

The term "patches" usually applies to software where you upgrade only files that have changed since the previous version. That's the approach that Microsoft uses with its "SP" regime. That is because the whole thing is far too big to send out quickly and easily.

In the case of Opus, as I understand it, updates invariably deliver the whole thing. No patches involved. Not big enough to warrant that approach.

So what you describe as "patches automatically" is just a download and reinstall with configured stuff preserved. Which means that you can download the whole thing at home – from the page that Leo mentioned – and carry it to the work machine.

I add this simply to clear up any confusion that others might have when they see the patches word and start looking for one. Leo will doubtless correct me if I am wrong.

PS I do wish Opus would "version number" its downloads, but that is probably just a personal thing.

Yep. The installers are good for both clean installs and updating existing installs.

I think it's because people link directly to the files and changing the name every time would break all the links. (And we can't be bothered having two different URLs for each file.)

However, unlike most software, we make sure that the installer's version matches what it installs. The version number will show up in the Description column, for example.

You can also make a button that puts the version number into the installer filename in one click, if you want:

Rename FILEINFO PATTERN *.exe TO *-{prodversion}.exe
