PDF-XChange, PDF file preview

I have PDF-XChange installed, but for some reason the viewer pane is not pulling in the viewer plugin?

This was working great for me just a few months ago, so I'm not sure what I've missed here. As I recall, I just installed PDF-XChange before and DOpus automatically detected it under the Active-X (+ etc) category.

Here's a copy of my previewer settings and a sample of what I see for .PDF preview at the moment.

Have you tried reinstalling PDF-XChange?

Is it working in File Explorer? (If not, it's something for their support people rather than us.)

Just reinstalled PDF-XChange. Working now!

Just got a new laptop and installed a fresh copy of Directory Opus and PDF x-Change, but having the same issue. I tried reinstalling PDF x-Change but that didn't resolve the issue this time. Same symptoms as described in original post (preview handler doesn't show up in ActiveX category)

EDIT: I noticed that in my list there is now a "Microsoft PDF" handler. I went ahead and enabled that and assigned .pdf files to it. It works. It's a workaround, though, as I'd like to return to using PDF x-Change.

Edit the association in Windows using:

Is it working in File Explorer’s preview pane?

If PDF-XChange isn’t working there either then you should ask the developers of it for advice.

Just checked and Windows File Explorer appears to be utilizing the same PDF handler that I selected in DOpus ("Microsoft PDF").

That implies PDF-XChange isn't registered as the PDF preview handler. Reinstalling it and/or making it the default via right-click > Open With > Choose Default Program should usually fix that. But, failing that, ask the PDF-XChange team as they'll know more about their software than we do.

FYI: I made PDF xChange the default program to open .pdf files, but it still doesn't handle previews.

I have installed FilesTypesMan and checked out the details on .pdf. Here's a screenshot.

Open should be set to your pdf program.

The important part is the preview handler registration, which not all tools display. But this is something to talk to the PDF-XChange developers about, if it's not working in File Explorer either.

I'm not sure I follow you. I am able to set my default program to open .PDF files. What I'm trying to do is to register the PDF xChange preview handler to display .PDF files in the viewer pane within DOpus.

I have installed Sumatra and it didn't register a preview handler either. I just installed "Microsoft PowerToys" and there's a PDF handler in there. It now shows up in the preview handler list in DOpus. Still stuck on how to get PDF xChange handler registered.

I found this post (Set SumartraPDF for previews after Adobe steals it after each update · sumatrapdfreader/sumatrapdf · Discussion #3584 · GitHub) and it provides a registry editing location (Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.pdf\shellex) that Windows Explorer references to pick a preview handler. It provides a key that represents Sumatra {3D3B1846-CC43-42AE-BFF9-D914083C2BA3} and I tried changing it to that, but then nothing loads in the preview pane.

Please ask the people who make PDF-XChange.
