With PowerDesk focus on a list of files, typing a letter would scroll the list to the next file name that starts with the typed letter.
Can I get Opus to do this?
Opus does this as well.
If Opus isn't doing this for you and you're using Power Mode then you probably just need to turn on Preferences / Listers / Power/Details Mode: Activate Keyboard Mode when a partial filename is typed (or the option below it which means Keyboard Mode is always active).
In Details and other view modes this option is effectively always on.

Since my settings already matched your suggestion, the problem must be me. So I figured it out. When I type a letter with Opus, it goes to the next row where the first letter in the sort column matches. PowerDesk ignores the sort column and uses the name column. Now that I know the secret, Opus is definately better than PowerDesk. Great product. A little expensive, but seems to be worth it. Great support too. Looks like I should buy a real license before the evaluation expires.
I got confused because I sort on "Ext". The folder contained 400 ".bat" files. Typing "m" had no effect.
You can disable this behaviour (and have key presses always scroll based on filename) from Preferences under Listers / Power/Details Mode / Details Mode / Sort-field specific key scrolling. Note there is an additional option on the same screen to control the same behaviour in Power Mode.
WOW. I give in. I got to have it. Time for me to reply to that e-mail from Greg, so I can order 3 licenses.
I got my DOpus licenses. I un-installed PowerDesk and ExplorerPlus. I find new neat things about DOpus everyday. Great stuff. But...
The only thing I miss is being able to see the contents of a .zip file in the "Folder Tree". Those otherwise inferior products did that. (major nuisance)
The only problem I have is with "Control Panel". At home with Win2k, Control Panel is shown in the Folder Tree under My Computer. At work with WinXP sp1, Control Panel is not shown. I did manage to get a "Tab" to show Control Panel when I start DOpus, but if I use the tab to show other things, I cannot get it back to Control Panel. (minor nuisance)
The viewer pane confuses me. If I select a Word or Excel document with the viewer pane on, it shows the contents, but the focus switches to another application. Even if I force it back by clicking on the title bar, it ignores keystrokes like "delete" and the "arrow" keys. Only seems to happen with "Office" documents. (dangerous)
Re: the zip file issue in the folder tree... you can certainly show "the zip file" in the folder tree via Preferences->ZIP Files->Show ZIP files in the Folder Tree... but I don't think there's any way to show folders 'inside' the zip file in the tree .
For the Control Panel thing - I'm pretty sure this is a Windows setting somwhere. I'm running XP Pro (sp2) and I've got it in the tree. You should be able to 'enable' it somewhere - BUT oddly enough, the Tools->Folder Options->View->Show Control Panel in My Computer option in Windows Explorer is DISABLED. And sure enough, the option for the same setting in TweakUI is also showing as disabled... yet... there it sits in both my Opus folder tree and Explorer folder tree.
For the viewer pane issue with 'Office' files... check out this topic post and let us know what you think:

Zip files: This is the only missing feature I can find that other file managers have. I miss it. But, I like all the features that only DOpus has.
Control Panel: I have the oposite situation here. It is enabled but does not show in Windows Explorer or DOpus. Obviously Windows fault. Not a big deal.
Viewer Pane: Fixed. Thank you.
Hmmm... for the Control Panel thing - I'd say give TweakUI a shot, but as you say if it's not showing under My Computer in either Windows Explorer OR Opus then it sounds like a 'windows' thing. Still TweakUI may reset seomthing to reveal the slippery bugger in your folder tree.
For the zip file folder content... submit a feature request to GPSoft. Hey if it's 'sensible and desirable' to see the actual zip files in the folder tree... it can't be any 'less so' to see the folders inside of them in the tree as well.
