I am a registered used of Directory Opus 13, version 13.6 x64, Build 8890.
There is an issue with pinning a path to the Quick Access shortcuts which I find on the right side, next to "Other Favorites" right below the menu bar.
This is related to the "horrendous" Microsoft OneDrive which I avoid using. I have chosen to open up a folder of choice in the left directory tree, a folder under my user name = "ray" (C:\Users\ray\Documents). I right click that folder and chose "Pin to Quick access". However, when I go to the Quick Access icon, and pick the shortcut known as Documents, my file items window is pointing to "C:\Users\ray\OneDrive\Documents". I believe it should navigate to the folder I previously pinned, "C:\Users\ray\Documents"
I have deleted this Quick Access pinned item, and pinned it again to C:\Users\ray\documents to no avail as it is still driven to C:\Users\ray\OneDrive\Documents.
Am I crazy, and don't understand how a file explorer should work? I understand Microsoft can do some crazy things. However "OneDrive" is a folder under a users home directory. Microsoft can do whatever crap they chose. On the other hand, I believe Directory Opus 13 should direct my folder from the Quick Access to where I have chosen.
Does the same happen in File Explorer? Quick Access is a Windows feature, rather than an Opus one; Opus just displays the list and passes on requests to add things to it.
(Opus also has its own Favorites, which are separate and completely under its control.)
It's also possible that OneDrive has moved the Documents folder to that path (possibly setting up a junction to make the old path continue to work, while redirecting things to the new one). I believe that's the default now in new Windows 11 installs, for example, as part of Microsoft's tactics to force people to use OneDrive without realising.
Maybe the solution is to simply completely remove OneDrive. There are other "invasive" issues related to Microsoft's taking over with their OneDrive process. You wouldn't see this behavior in a "real" file system on other platforms like Linux for example.
This is the answer to my results of completely removing Microsoft OneDrive, and what steps I took get rid of Microsoft OneDrive:
First, I went to the OneDrive app running on the taskbar, right clicked and chose "unlink" from this PC.
Next, I went to settings, Apps, and selected Microsoft OneDrive, clicked the ellipses, then selected "uninstall".
Next, I went to the task manager, found Microsoft OneDrive process, and terminated it.
Next, I rebooted machine.
Once OneDrive removed, the result of pinning my personal document folder to the Quick Access icon are shown below:
C:\Users\ray\Documents still results in driving the folder view to C:\Users\ray\OneDrive\Documents after I pinned my personal document folder to C:\Users\ray\Documents.
Fortunately, talking the same action on the "Other Favorites" icon results in the correct action of driving the folder view to my personal documents folder of: C:\Users\ray\Documents.
As it was mentioned in the first replied post, there is something internal to Windows 10 causing this to happen on the Quick Access icon. Microsoft OneDrive is not the culprit there since that undesired action takes place with, or without OneDrive installed.
OneDrive is the reason the "Other Favorites" is forced to the OneDrive folder. But, getting rid of OneDrive stopped that undesired action from happening on "Other Favorites".
