Re-arrange files by drag/drop. Possible?

Is it possible to re-arrange files in a group by dragging them to the new position within that group? Then I could select all in the new arrangement and rename them so they always appear in that order.

I found that xp / vista could do this in explorer, but not windows 7. If this is not possible, any ideas of a program that I could do this with? I am scanning thousands of photos and dragging to new positions would be much nicer then renaming individually.

Here is a link that describes what I would like to do: ehow.com/how_2244374_arrange ... files.html

This has been requested a few times already, but arbitrary sorting isn´t currently possible, although items can
be placed on the top of listers by using the »ignore prefix« option in options -> folder options -> sorting options (in the »view« tab).
You can separate items by using a pipe symbol, »|«.

Your only options are sorting the files by a criteria that gets the order you want (and possibly changing their names, attributes or descriptions to change the order).

I think we have a button somewhere which assigns an increasing number to the start of the selected file(s) each time it is run, for setting the order of files like that.

Thanks abr, not sure what that means, but will try it. Couldn't find the option before, but I was a bit tired then, so will have another look at it.

Leo, think I found the thread, will try it out too.

thanks.
