+1 to @TeslaRename's request
You could make a button with the undo list. You can go through the available undo steps.
undo LIST
I made a button menu. Left click is undo. Right click is the list.
Would be nice if we could have a three button menu. And a redo.
Someone show me a *file manager that has this sequential undo ability.
Because when working with files, if you go through your undo steps too fast you're asking for trouble.
I made a button menu.
This discussion is about having a way to do it with the keyboard...there's already a way to do it with the mouse/UI.
Someone show me a *file manager that has this sequential undo ability.
...What? As already been pointed out multiple times above, the default File Explorer does this. Dolphin does it on Linux too. There's tons of examples.
Because when working with files, if you go through your undo steps too fast you're asking for trouble.
Then don't go through them too fast. This doesn't change the issue.
And since you can't, here's a workaround to make it a little easier for anyone coming across this thread. You're welcome.
Which OS?
(And for the record no, Ctrl + Y isn't the "industry standard". Several apps use Ctrl + Shift Z or Ctrl + Alt Z.)
*Legitimate file managers.
Great idea. Risk blue screen memory situations so you can push a hotkey instead of click a button with the mouse; for that three times in your whole life you will use sequential undo. Brilliant.
You've already spent more time talking about this than you will ever get back if it were changed.
Which OS?
You're asking which OS "File Explorer" is for? It's for Windows......
(no, Ctrl + Y isn't the "industry standard". Several apps use Ctrl + Shift Z or Ctrl + Alt Z.)
I explicitly stated "Ctrl+Y (or Ctrl+Shift+Z)" above. Also I fail to see what the default hotkey in other apps has to do with anything? We're asking for the ability to use the keyboard. Nobody said it needed to be hardcoded to a particular key.
*Legitimate file managers.
Zero idea what you're implying by this.
Risk blue screen memory situations so you can push a hotkey instead of click a button with the mouse
In my entire life I've never once hit a blue screen from undoing something in a file manager. And even if so, if triggering a buggy undo operation would lead to a blue screen, it would happen regardless of if the operation were triggered from keyboard or mouse.
I'm beyond baffled by your replies. It's really pretty simple: We are asking for an option. Feel free not to use that option if you don't want to. Clearly there are people who would like to use it.
Windows 10 or 11 (yikes)
"For the record" means it was discussed above. There isn't a standard for this hotkey.
When someone spends their free time helping you decide to fight a good samaritan comment instead of just ignore something that you wouldn't use?
Hey. After you figure out how to link your account, you should try my suggestion.
Then you will learn that right clicking gives you a list of your history. Making it safer and more accurate as to what your undo choice will be. Because you get to see what you're about to do, before you do it (Unless of course you commit all your history to the infallible memory in your mind, but somehow I would doubt that, seeing as you seem to be so reckless that you need a sequential undo on speed dial).
And then you will learn that the undo list works in serial. So with a single click you can jump to that undo point, skipping over multiple undo steps, making it F F F FFFFFFFFASTER than a sequential keyboard shortcut. Howbout that.
Windows 10 or 11 (yikes)
Both. It works in both (yikes). Which, along with Dolphin, are all "legitimate" file managers.
you decide to fight a good samaritan
You appear to be making the case that a hotkey is unnecessary, or nonstandard, or dangerous (in addition to various other points of dubious applicability). I was attempting to address those points. TL'DR is you have a workflow that you prefer. That's great. Clearly others prefer a keyboard-only workflow.
There isn't a standard for this hotkey.
right clicking

....I give up
Oh I see what the problem is. You guys don't want the second Ctrl + Z to redo. You want it to undo again (I was thinking something else, my bad).
Ya that's stupid.
GPSoft, what the hell.
It’s not stupid at all and lots of other software works the same way.
But we’ll add an option to make it work the other way in the next beta, for people who want that.
Sorry, that was rude of me.
Thanks for the change.
Oh my friends, we don't need community wars. Opus is an inclusive software that includes many customization options. What I'm asking for is an customization
option for a different mode (sequential undo, sequential redo). Thank you for the discussion, also thank Leo for listening to and providing feedback on community opinions.
@Leo Is the feature not available in 13.17? I didn't notice anything in the changelog
