Ist there a "Redo"-command for last operation?
If you undo you can then redo (i.e. undo the undo).
There's no "repeat last action" command, though. (I'm not sure how that would work generally.)
Ha, never pressed undo again, because I thought, it would undo the operation before the last undo operation. But last undo counts as operation
But wouldn't it make sense to have a redo-button and undo really undo the operations which are in undo-list (so an undo doesn't count as operation)? It's a bit irritating, because all other programs work that way.
I trapped into this as well when using UNDO at times. I expected DO to step back continuously instead of toggling the effect of the last operation. Undoing multiple operations currently requires you to really watch very close at what items you select in the undo-list, and it's always gonna look different after you selected one item, which is irritating indeed and probably nothing most users realize.
No, they don't.
Some work this way, some work the other way.
You can use Edit > Undo List if you need to undo more than the most recent action (which seems quite rare with a file manager, at least in my experience, and when it does happen it's often helpful to see the list and know exactly what is about to be undone anyway).
Ok, you've convinced me.
This was a post from 2015. Is there a way to press control+z and have it continually undo the previous action? And, have control+y continually redo the last action if it was one that was already done?
Or, can control+z only toggle undoing and redoing the last previous action?
I like the first way better. It's much more intuitive.
Nothing has changed here.
If you want to undo multiple steps, use Edit > Undo List > More (which opens the Undo Log in the Utility Panel).
Yeah. I read your previous reply. I guess I'll keep doing it that way.
(The Undo List is written in words which the brain doesn't understand as easily as visual stimuli.)
Sorry to revive the thread. No changes?
Ctrl + z to undo and ctrl + y to redo is almost a standard, I've been trying to adapt to the DO way of doing these things but it's been difficult for me.
You can edit the hotkeys in Opus if you prefer the other convention.
Thought about that also many times. It would make sense in some contexts. I know that function from an older audio editor, where F3 would repeat the last used action.
Could u provide a little guidence on how to achieve this behavior via hotkeys? I couldn't figure it out. Every other app I've ever used, both on Windows & Linux, repeating Ctrl+Z keeps iterating backwards thru the undo history, & Ctrl+Y (or Ctrl+Shift+Z) iterates forward. I see that you can go back manually through the UI/menu, but it's much more convenient to be able to do it quickly with the keyboard (if you ever have to go back more than once).
Thanks
This problem has not been resolved yet. I don't know why the default Ctrl+Z shortcut does not remember history operations for sequential undo in OPUS. Is this function missing in OPUS? Or is it just that the default Ctrl+Z shortcut does not execute this logic? I hope to get an answer
I hope the sequential undo function can become a standard feature in OPUS, as using Ctrl+Z for sequential undo and Ctrl+Y for sequential redo is almost a standard feature in modern mainstream software, whether it's Windows Explorer, main office software like Office suites, Adobe suites, web editors, and so on. I hope OPUS will add these operations as default functions.
I agree with strackchen. The 'sequential' function is standard. Undo in DOpus is different from any other application I have used (as far as I remember).
(Edit: Since writing this, we've added a Sequential Undo option for people who really want it.)
Part of the reason multiple Undos have to be done via the Undo List is that it becomes unpredictable which actions are going to be undone once you've done several things in a row (some of which may not be undoable, e.g. deleting a file without the recycle bin, or renaming a file which has since been deleted).
It's not impossible in Opus, you just have to go to the UI to do it.
At least for me personally, I've never found this to be a problem, and have rarely needed to undo more than the very last action.
Lots of applications do Undo the same as Opus, too, even if it's not the ones you use. (It's been discussed in other threads already so I don't want to go over it again.)
+1 for an option to use this method please. (sequential undo)
I know some above are advocating to change the default - personally I don't think the default matters much one way or the other. My issue is that I don't see any way to configure it back to the more standard/widespread behavior, aka to be able to undo more than once using the keyboard. This is even possible in the old default File Explorer.
(Regarding whether or not some other apps that exist this way? I don't doubt that they do - personally I've never experienced one either, but in any event, as long as there's some way to CONFIGURE the ability to go back more than once with the keyboard, I'd consider this solved).
I ask that you give us an option in the Preference section to adhere to sequential undo and redo (ctrl Z and ctrl Y) as an alternative to the current behavior.
I have been having issues with files going to the trash because the current behavior is confusing.
Furthermore, many users look for DO as an alternative to File Explorer (I am one of those users), and the current behavior is completely counterintuitive for those looking for DO as an alternative to File Explorer.
I love the work of your team, but listen to the feedback from regular users ![]()
