I downloaded the PDF reference manual and I use Foxit reader to open it. Opening the bookmarks feature I see a complete breakdown of the document, but when I click on a sub-chapter, I see the table of Contents displayed on the main panel. It does work with the main topics, but not the sub-topics nor the links on the display page will open.
When I use the table of Contents page numbers to go to a topic, I enter the number to go directly to the page only to find I'm 6 pages away from my intended topic.
I installed Adobe Reader and find that I'm getting the same result. The PDF manual is a great tool and I would appreciate it more if it worked as intended. Thank you.
The manual has roman numeral pages before the numbered pages (as is standard with most reference manuals, I think), and PDF viewers don't understand the concept it seems. Many books I've tried to read in PDF have had this problem.
PDF is best for printing, being page/paper based. It's not best for interactive viewing on a screen. The F1 help (chm) or web (html) versions are recommended for anything other than printing out. The content of all three versions of the manual is the same (other than recent changes, which make it into the F1 help faster.)
As Leo has explained, the PDF manual is essentially designed for printing not directly for reading as a PDF since the online help and the F1 help in the program itself do a much better job at this.
However, there does seem to have been an error in the creation of the PDF index. Thanks for telling us!
I have recreated the PDF with a correctly working index and uploaded a new version to thew web site. Please download the current version if you wish.
Just checked this out and the Index is still way off and not even consistently off. Sometimes it is two pages and in other places it is several pages outs. It seems better not to have the index (at the end) as printing it out will only frustrate.
Thanks for the report. Let us know if you find any further problems.
(PLEASE NOTE: The PDFs are always for the major release version and are not necessarily up-to-date with new changes for the various sub-versions and betas. For the authoritative manual, you should always consult the F1 Help in the program.)

Points taken re other help options.[/quote]
Ah! So some of you mean the 'Index' at the end of the PDF, not the TOC or Left Hand PDF bookmarks index.
What I fixed was the TOC and LH bookmarks which Adobe conversion had broken. Adobe have completely stuffed the creation of bookmarks, TOC, bookmarks etc in their latest Acrobat versions. I've found an easier way using Word directly that works much better and doesn't take 2 hours.
