I have searched for this functionality and have not found a way to do this in DO.
Windows Explorer does this, but for some reason I have not found out how to get DO to do this...
I am trying to get DO to remember the view settings of folders.
How do I explain this...
Say you have a parent folder that you view using details. There is a child folder of photos. When I go to the photos folder, I need to see the contents of that folder as large icons. I need to have DO remember these unique folder view settings without having to switch views every time I switch back and forth or when I return to the folder(s).
Is there a way, in DO, to have it save these unique folder view settings?
Set up the folder how you want it to look, then click Folder near the top right/middle, and then click Save. One of the options will be to save the format for the current folder.
You can also make a button or hotkey which runs Set SAVEFORMAT=folder to do all of that in one click, if it's something you think you'll use a lot. Then you just set up the folder and click the button to save a format for that path.
You can also use Content Types to e.g. automatically switch into thumbnails mode if you enter a folder which is mostly images, without having to configure individual folders.
O.k. Got it. I was able to save the folder options... but now, when I go up a level, the parent has changed to the same format, rather than staying as Details. If I change the parent to details, then the child displays as details rather than the saved format (thumbnails).
This should be more "intuitive"... any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong here.
I appreciate the help.
If you manually change how a lister is displaying a folder, it will keep using that format for similar folders, so that you don't have to keep re-doing your change whenever you go into a new folder.
If the format changes due to the format saved for a path, it will change back again when you leave that path.
In the initial situation, you may be getting both things happening at once. It's always a good idea to close the window and open a fresh one when testing new formats, to ensure there's no influence from previous actions in the window.
