Rename based on MP3 Tags?

Hi,

since i think this task should be either very easy or impossible to do i try to ask here before reading the whole docs before i find what im looking for. basically i want to rename mp3dirs by selecting a file inside (the one with the "right" tags) and extracting some tags (e.g. artist).

Example:

by selecting
C:\ManyAlbums\Artist1 -with-nubTAGs-(and stuff i dont need) - SUPERALBUM\01 - ProperTrack.mp3

and clicking magic button, i want sth like
C:\ManyAlbums\Artist1 - SUPERALBUM

Thx in advance

Let me see if I understand this right. You would like to rename the directory holding some music files, and you want to rename that directory using some music tags such as artist or album?

If that's right, then I'd say the short answer is it's not practical. However you can achieve the same results in a little different manner. Instead of renaming the parent directory of the music file, you could create new subdirectories named with certain music information.

For example the screen grab below shows how you can use the Rename Advance Dialog box to rename a selected music file so it's moved into a subfolder named after the album. The advantage of doing it this way is you can rename several files (creating several different subfolders) which have different information (eg Album or Artist). Once you've done your renaming, you can just drag and drop the new subfolders where you want them.

Hm ;(

ya i knew about the rename options and used them for pictures before, but thats not helping at all :frowning: thx anyway

damn, so im prob renaming the dirs manually the whole day tomorrow ;D
