Renaming files - whilst preview enabled - keep file name in edit mode

It is often handy to rename files whilst the preview being enabled. One can add document details to the files name and (in my case) a date.

With preview enable - renaming multiple files:

  1. editing the name of, let's say, the first file,
  2. use the cursor down key,
  3. the name of the 2nd file is in 'edit' mode, so one can change it, if necessary.

In case of preview enabled, the file name first starts in edit mode,
then the file is deselected (exit edit mode) and jumps to the previous file name, the one that had just been changed.

Is there a way to avoid this. It is a bit 'unhandy' having to re-select files each time, especially when having a whole list of files that has to be renamed this way.

Thanks

That may happen if the viewer steals the focus. Opus's own image viewer and plugins will not do that, but some third party viewers (e.g. some PDF viewers) steal focus (even though it is against the spec for them to do so).

I use Opus preview (Set VIEWPANE=Toggle,Vert) whilst previewing PDF files.

Then the PDF viewer you're using is stealing focus when Opus asks it to display a file.

(Opus doesn't have its own a PDF viewer built-in. It uses whichever PDF preview handler component you have installed, the same as File Explorer does in its preview pane.)

Ah right .. yes, am very sorry, I see it now.
For a second or two, when previewing a PDF file, there is this 'mini menu-bar' popping up with the Acrobat logo. Didn't pay attention to it, or better didn't pay attention to the logo. Thought Opus was handling this (as .pdf is listed in the ActiveX list). Maybe one day it will have its own PDF viewer?

As for Windows Explorer, I just gave it a try: folder with some pdf files, set preview 'on', renamed a file, then tab, then the next file name was selected in edit mode.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback.

Leo, out of curiosity: even when small, will there be a chance that Opus will act similar to Windows Explorer? One way or the other Acrobat doesn't seem the PDF viewer within Explorer(?) So it does steal focus.
Thanks.

What does it say the viewer is in Opus? It's at the top of the viewer pane, next to the file name. You may need to make the window quite wide to see it.

Does it mention a preview handler, or an activex control? What's the exact string there?

Is this what you are looking for?

Turn on Preview Handlers / Adobe PDF for Vista (32-bit) (in your 2nd screenshot) if you want Opus to use the same viewer that Explorer is using.

The way you have it configured right now has the preview handler disabled in Opus, and Opus is falling back on Adobe's viewer which is designed for use in a web browser.

Super!
Thank you so much.
Thought it was 'handled' by this ActiveX thing or so.
Anyway, this indeed solved my issue.
