Replace vs Merge during the copy of a folder over an existing one?

Hello !
When I perform a copy of a folder over an existing one (same name), with a drag and drop or even with a CTRL+C/CTRL+V, D.O. ask me for a "Merge" or "Merge all" option ("Fusionner" and "Fusionner tout" on my french system) where I would like to perform a "Replace" or "Replace all" operation.
I think I've searched through all the options in the preferences, but I don't see anything that would allow a "Replace" instead of "Merge". Is there a way to change this behavior?
Thank you very much

There isn't currently a way to replace a directory (at least when doing a normal copy). You can only:

  • Merge the two together
  • Or, Skip doing anything with either
  • Or, Rename the new directory to end up with two separate directories

Replacing the old dir entirely can only be done by deleting the old directory first, before copying the new one over.

(Commands in the Edit > Select Other menu can help identify directories that already exist on both sides.)

Okay ! Thank you for your quick reply.
By the way I can also use Tools/Synchronize.
I know the Merge principle was a long awaited option on most OSes files managers and I'm used to the old "replace" way. As it can sometimes be faster, I thought I could have missed something.
