Sometimes it's necessary to resize columns, so I would like to be able to also resize an autofill column, which is fixed. I think this will require an option not to autofill after a directory has been read.
You can use the script here to toggle columns between autosize and normal.
It's originally from the video about column resizing modes, at 18m31s.
Since it is extremely useful to have autofill, but also unbelievably frustrating to click on a column title and being unable to resize it, it would be great if there was an "autofill until resize" option. With this hypothetical option the column will behave as an autofill column until the user-who-wants-to-see-something-but-the-column-is-too-darn-small clicks on the column title edge to resize it. Then it would switch to a resizable column until the view is refreshed or the window is resized.
Having an option to switch the autofill off using a script is great but it is still one step too much, and does nothing to alleviate the horrible frustration one feels when a click on the column edge does nothing.
