If I use Dopus to rotate images/photos, the pixel are rotated and the file is compressed (loses quality).
Because of that, I cannot use Dopus to rotate images because it's important to preserve file quality.
Please consider the use of Exif orientation instead, which adds information to the Exif metadata telling applications how the photo should be displayed so that file quality is not affected.
You can already edit the EXIF rotation field via the metadata panel.
But JPEG rotation is often lossless anyway, unless the images have unusual dimensions that don’t allow for lossless rotation.
The image
command can also be told to error if the rotation it is asked to do would be lossy, to avoid accidental lossy rotations (e.g. if some images in the workflow can be lossless rotated and others can’t).
Sorry I did not know that. I had searched the manual but did not find that info.
Using the toolbar icons/commands for rotating results in significant compression and loss of image quality.
What resolution are the images? Any width/height that's a multiple of 8 should support lossless rotation.
I rotated scanned photos - as those are usually the only photos I need to rotate. So, since the rotation was very lossy, I assume the dimensions are not a multiple of 8 for any of them.
Ok, well if you ever find they are a multiple of 8 and not rotating losslessly, it might be worth reporting.
