Same as rar?

I enjoy the way the viewer in Opus can see into *.zip file when the file is selected. Is there anyway to have this do the same thing with the *.rar extension? Thanks

That's not something Opus does itself, we get that behaviour for free from Explorer which provides a preview handler for .zip files. So unfortunately no, unless you can find a third-party preview handler for .rar files, there's no way to enable that.

I totally understand, so are you saying that if I had something like QuickView Plus this can be accomplished. I will ask the question now also; is it possible to enable the view of other things not typically seen in Opus as long as you have a handler(mechanism in Windows to view)? If so, interesting I need to learn about this. Thanks

Hu? I've never seen Explorer to preview ZIP file content, should this work on a stock Windows 7?

I get 'No preview available' for zips in plain Explorer.

Me too.

Well it comes from somewhere, and that's not Opus

It comes from Internet Explorer not Windows Explorer / File Explorer.

Interesting, what Internet Explorer version needs to be installed, do you know?
I searched the web, couldn't find information regarding that, but I found a thread where you show that zip-preview:

I don't know. Does it matter? I doubt any version of IE that is still supported lacks it.

I haven't seen a zip preview in Win7 or Win2008 yet, which comes with IE 9. I just checked a Windows2012 R2 machine, which comes with IE 11 and it also does not show zip previews in Explorer. So yes, if the preview handler really comes from a specific IE installation, it would be interesting which version that is.

Maybe there's a chance it has nothing to do with IE at all? Maybe it's related to another microsoft product installed or a system setting?
I guess IE v11 should be recent enough at least, especially when you say the installed version is rather not important.

It works all the way back to XP. Could be something has broken the .zip registry settings in some way.

There is no preview handler. It's IE itself that does it (or possibly an IE plugin or ActiveX control that comes as part of IE or Windows, but not a preview handler; it won't work in Windows Explorer's viewer).

Thanks for giving these details and taking the time to explain, now I got it working!
For some reason the ".zip" extension was missing in the right spot in my viewer-configuration.

Only way it could be missing from there is by removing it. (That plugin's config on disk records differences vs the defaults, rather than the absolute list of extensions.)

Is it somehow possible to navigate "up" in the zip-content preview thing? o) I can drill-down folders in the previewed zip, but I see no way to get back up, weird.
I know that I could easily double click the zip-file and navigate up and down easily with DO of course! o))
