Save toolbar position with folder format

Hello,

I have a folder containing images and its format (with view as thumbnails) saved in "Path formats". For "view as thumbnails" there is the "Image" toolbar that only shows for this type of format. My problem is that it keeps popping up on a separate row in the toolbar area, no matter where I place it before saving folder format. I would like to stay where I put it, that is, on the same row with the other toolbars, so the folder display won't jump up and down when I switch folders.

Is there a way to save the toolbar's position together with folder formats?

Thanks in advance.

If you had that automatic toolbar as a part of a row, it would still pop up on that half, and otherwise leave a gap, which might be equally irritating. Maybe the best solution would be, to permanently integrate the commands you need, somewhere in an existing toolbar. And the LINE command for toolbar positions doesn't work with automatic file type recognition, which always triggers a full row toolbar.

Equally irritating? No, not even close. Main problem here is the whole screen jumping up and down when the toolbar toggles. Compare that with 20% of the top right toolbar. Almost invisible.

I don't want to permanently integrate the commands I need on an existing toolbar because I really like the idea of contextual toolbars. Too bad this idea is only half way implemented. Toolbar position is as much a contextual attribute as is its visibility.

Instead of a single toolbar that turns on or off you can specify a toolbar set to be activated, and toolbar sets can replace all the existing toolbars - you could probably achieve what you want this way.

Well, i tried to use the LINE command for that toolbar, but it looks like it always opens up full row, when triggered automatically. It seems to be hardcoded.

Maybe you could make an auto-hide, floating duplicate of that toolbar? That's the closest, that comes to my mind

That means replicating all the menus and commands to the secondary set. Overkill.

I will try abr's idea, a floating auto-hide toolbar, although at this moment I don't know how can I achieve that. But I will RTFM

I have another idea, which would satisfy my greed :stuck_out_tongue: equally: any chance of making a command (toolbar button) contextual? That is, don't hide the toolbar, just the button on an existing toolbar. Specifically, in my case, I need the rotate left/right buttons and predefined thumbnail sizes buttons to only show up when the folder format is in "view as thumbnails" mode.

You don't have to replicate menus and commands. A toolbar set is just a collection of existing toolbars. So you position your toolbars in one way and save it as the default set, then open the additional toolbar and save the new arrangement as another set.

Oh, that sounds way better. I'll try it and come back.

Well, I tried, the new and ugly problem is I can't get rid of the Image toolbar. No matter what I do, it keeps popping up if the folder is in "view as thumbnails" mode. Always on a separate row. And I can't delete that toolbar. You hardcoded something in its behavior. This is certainly a bug,

See Preferences / File Display Modes / Toolbars.

Wow, you guys never cease to amaze me. There is always an option for anything.

That, together with the toolbar sets, did the trick. Now I have exactly what I wanted, a toolbar that only shows up in the "thumb-nailed" folder, on the same row with the other toolbars.

Still, you should consider adding an option for automatic coffee brewing in the morning. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks a lot for your time.
