I'm trying out DOpus and I've just done a search that seems to be faulty.
I'm in My Documents and I have a file in there called 'usgold.pdf'. I typed 'gold' into the search box and it didn't find it. It found 147 others, so I assume it's looking inside the files too (though it seems a bit fast to be doing that). Filtering on pdfs didn't help (unless the search box is empty). If I type 'us' in front of 'gold' it finds it. Delete 'us', and it's gone.
This was the first search I did, and unless I understand what's going on, I won't be able to trust it, just like the Windows one. I had to install Agent Ransack because of the Windows one being broken.
The search box at the top-right just passes the query to Windows Search. You may need to specify filename:gold if you want to match only filenames, and not just filename prefixes.
Opus also has its own Tools > Find Files panel which does not use Windows Search, as well as the Filter Bar (* key by default) which has a Partial Matching option where just typing "gold" would find the file. You can also type "gold" straight into the lister to highlight all files containing the word and jump to the first one.
Thanks. I'd assumed the one at the top of the page was using its own search, and not the Windows one. The Opus one works perfectly, as does using wildcards in the top one.
The tools / find files is really powerful, it recently found some files that was causing me a headache with another program, that program was using files that I didn't need anymore, but the crappy windows search was bloody useless.
with with the advance search, it was able to find those files and I was able to delete them. the advance search is really powerful, so use that instead of windows search, you can also add a filter bar at the bottom, (I suggest you move the tabs to the top)
Prefs button (or F12), then select Folder tabs / Options / Display tabs at the top.
then
Prefs button (or hit F12) then select File Displays / Filter Bar / Display Filter Bar: Always
just starting to use this powerful feature myself,
got more information about setting up the interface, setting up tabs and other things, you should once you have time, read this really good guide
