Search from a bar avoid find panel

In Vista, there is a search bar. You can type something into the search bar, and it will search for files. This does not popup a dialog box, it simply searches for your files instantly.

Is there a way I can use a location bar with some arguments or something, to produce the same effect?

Thanks.

This should be a complete list of all your options in this area:

(Unless I have forgotten to add any of the alternatives.)

The toolbar Filter control is probably most like what you're used to in Explorer.

That is not what I was talking about. I don't want to "filter" files. I want to perform a search from a location bar, much the same way filtering is performed, but search "inside" of folders. I do not want to do this from the find panel or the find popup box. I want to type something into a search bar, then press enter, then have it display the results inline without having to deal with the find panel / find utility.

This is >not< the same as filter. Does that make sense?

Makes sense. There's no way to search without at least a small pop-up at the moment.

The closest you can get is to make a hotkey which will open a small window with just an edit control where you can type the search pattern and hit return to search.
