Probably a simple query, but how do you just search on filenames, not contents?
Can't find anything in this forum of help on this.

It's easy when using Tools -> Find Files, so I'm guessing we're talking about using the Search field in the top-right instead, which runs a Windows Search query.
To tell Windows Search to only search names, put filename: at the start of the query.
For example, type this into the box to find all files ending in .jpg:
filename:*.jpg
Microsoft's documentation on Windows Search isn't very good, but you can find some here (linked from the Windows Search page in the Opus manual).
Leo, thanks. I want to search over a number of folders/sub-folders. You say it's easy with Find Files, but I can't see how....
Which part are you having problems with?
Usually I just navigate to highest level from which I want to search and invoke the Find Panel. My experience is that the search takes place in everything below the folder I am viewing when I initiate the search.
If you want to restrict the search to only certain sub-folders or search in a group of folders which have no hierarchial relationship to each other, more setup would be required. I'm sure it can be done, but it's not something I do or have the steps for readily available.
You just add the folders you want to search to the big Find In list at the top of the find panel. Double-click where it says "Add folder to search...", or drag folders to the list, or click the first button above the list. Couldn't be easier.
Ok, that solves all problems for me, thanks, but one further question arises - if searching multiple folders in this way, and you get the list of found files - how do you ascertain which folder a particular file is in? If you highlight a file, I can't see a path displaying anywhere.
Turn on the Location or Location (Relative) column.
You might want to turn it on for the Collections folder format, so it's on by default whenever you're in a collection (unless the specific collection has a path format which overrides things). You can do that under Preferences / Folders / Folder Formats.
Thanks Leo - just one more question - how do you get that column to display immediately after the filename column, as default, in that collections folder only?
How to do that was in my previous reply. Which bit are you having trouble with?
In preferences / folders / folder formats / search results / "edit" (right click on "search results"), you can add the target column from the list on the left.
You can drag it then into the second position, right after the file name. By the way, you can open the according folders from the search results using Go OPENCONTAINER=target.
That's it. Lovely. Thanks.
