Hi,
Here is my question: Is there a way to select multiple files with the middle key if there is no empty space between the icons. I mean can I set the mouse behavior so that if I press the middle key above the file I can draw the selection rectangle, instead of the dragging the file. Why would anyone want to drag the file with the middle key if it is already can be done with the left key anyway.
Thanks.
Maybe it´s worth to have a look at the power mode settings (in -> preferences -> file display modes), where you can configure the middle mouse button accordingly.
There´s a drop down list of various actions.

Yes I've noticed that, but sadly I don't have the need of such feature in the mode other than thumbnails.
Plus, there is probably no need in "dragging with the middle key" feature in thumbnails and details mode, does anyone use it?. It seems something need to be done.
No I never even imagined to try middle click drag. You have to click on a blank space to draw rectangles I think. The Power mode drag select looks like same thing though minus rectangles?
But Power mode seems to be missing the option for normal left mouse button behavior ie like in every other mode? Is that right? The closet looks like drag select but I find it sooo hard to use as it starts selecting other files while I attempt drag-dropping. I'd really like that option of middle click drag select, though in regular details mode.
Oh do you know if you turn off full-row selection you get more blank space on the right of the filename column to draw rectangles from. I find it pretty good.
Other features you might like to check:
- Select one file with left click, hold shift and click another file to select range of files.
- Combine point 1) with checkbox mode so you can select and deselect files easily.
- Select and deselect files holding Ctrl or Shift+Ctrl.
"Auto-deselect" is like the Details mode left button behaviour:
Thanks that was the other thing that bothered me but it now is deselecting on left click on file/empty spot after I closed and reopened Opus. But it still auto selects other files if you pass over them during a drag which Details mode doesn't do. It's too hard for me to avoid files dragging. Wish it was completely like Details mode.
Ok I see it's not actually grabbed the file to drag when it's selecting everything you go over with left click held in. So you have to get the drag handle on it secured before you start dragging files... then it will stop selecting. Too tricky for me that is, I really can't handle it!
But I also have an issue with Power Right Click not having the identical option to behave like Details. if I could just access that middle drag select without losing normal right and left that that would be so cool. But drawing the box in Details mode is still pretty efficient.
Hello there , It's been 5 years and I still need this feature
The thing is that if you have images with white background, it's really really hard to find the space between the thumbnails to start drawing the selection rectangle. I know that I can select a range of files holding the shift key and then exclude unwanted files individually with a middle key. But it takes a lot of time sometimes.
May be there had been some new features out, which might work at least as a workaround for my need?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I hope I can find a workaround.
