Set background for current active lister

I'm trying to set the background image for the active lister temporarily.
I used to be able to achieve it with folder formats which used to have image background definitions.
The setting Set BACKGROUNDIMAGE "filedisplay:/mypictures/butterfly-tile.png" makes a permanent change.

How do I just set the background temporarily?

Add BACKGROUNDIMAGEOPTS=local to the command.
