But SetAttr MODIFIED=taken CREATED=taken should be better, as it'll do both at once, which is quicker and also avoids issues if something reacts to the change by locking the file before the second change, or similar.
If that doesn't work either, something external to Opus could be preventing the Created date from being modified, perhaps. Can you modify it via other methods?
Thanks Leo! I went and face-tagged my photo library and the tagging software changed the date modified and created which messed up the order of my photos. I appreciate your help!
What application for viewing photos would only sort by Date Created or Date Modified? Unless you are using Mac Finder, or ACDSee, there should be an option to sort by 'Date Taken' or 'Capture Date'. If they are scanned photos and you had not yet added date metadata, that would explain why they would sort differently.
I had some very old photos without proper exif data and while most photo viewers don't have an issue with it, the Dropbox Photos tab does. I ended up restoring from a backup after editing the metadata as I ended up making things worse. I'll just live with May 2023 looking a little wonky in the Dropbox interface. I've moved onto this great app PhotoStructure for my day to day library browsing. Thank goodness for data backups!
Dropbox Photos Tab? Do you mean you are viewing your photos at Dropbox.com? If yes, there is no column representing the date/time the shutter was pressed, so you can't access that info/date. File Date Modified can be changed by an assortment of actions - like adding a keyword, so you will never be able to rely on that field to represent the date/time the shutter was pressed.
The File Date Created of a photo can change also, but in fewer circumstances - like if you created a new cropped version of a photo, or convert a photo from file format to another.
If you change a photo's Date Taken with DOpus to the date/time the shutter was pressed (or your best guess), that will be reliable because a few different date metadata fields are added or changed. Once the Date Taken is set, it's a good idea to set the File Date Created to match, but as noted above, it can be changed.
For some reason the Dropbox Photos tab isn't using the photo date taken for a handful of images. I'm just going to live with it. Face tagging my photos seemed to have messed some things up with older images.
Then those photos did not have complete/intact date metadata metadata before you used FR. While 'Date Taken' is quite reliable, photos can still have what I call a 'false' Date Taken' For example, a if a photo is scanned and then converted to another file format, it is often given (depending on what was used to convert the file) an Exif Modify date. If that happens, a 'false' Date Taken will be displayed.
