Is there a shortcut like space or another key that can be pressed to show a preview of an image or another file or the only way is to use the viewer pane? I saw that feature in other software. Pressing space opens a large popup of that image and is easy to close with ESC or clicking outside of it.
The size of an info tip thumbnail image can be specified.

Try Quicklook at GitHub - QL-Win/QuickLook: Bring macOS “Quick Look” feature to Windows
It can be triggered by the space bar. I find it useful. YMMV

No, there is also the standalone viewer.
Pushing enter will open the selected image in the standalone viewer, if it’s enabled. Pushing Esc will then close it.
That's what I meant, something like that. OneCommander has this feature from what I recall.
I liked it. No need to open our picture viewer for a quick look.
Edit: Quick update, I ended up using QuickLook and it's awesome.
