Slow network folders

I'm helping a friend who is evaluating the product (I'm trying to get him to buy...we'll see) and he's having difficulty with network folders loading very slowly. The more files that are in the network folder, the slower it gets. When the same folder is viewed on my machine, it loads very fast (a few seconds). I've searched and we've looked into a few things (he's checking on shell extensions right now), but the other items we've seen are not applicable (antivirus, zip file management, et al).

The only difference between the systems is that mine is Windows 7 32 bit, and his is Windows 7 64 bit. We actually have the same hardware.

Can we export/import my configuration without exporting/import my license? I'd like to try that and see if there's a configuration difference we aren't seeing. If not, is there anything else that can be causing this?

Shell extensions have been checked and all differences have been eliminated.

It is notable that Windows Explorer is quite fast, which is what made me think that it could be shell extensions or a difference between 32 bit and 64 bit.

Yes, the licence isn't included in the config backup. Remember to do a backup of his configuration first, so he can go back to it afterwards.

Trying that seems like a good first step.

Other things to try are disabling things like zip files from being shown in the folder tree (since it can cause files to be inspected to work out if they are archives, which can be slow over a network, especially if it triggers an anti-virus scan of the whole file).

Columns like Description, Width, Height, etc. can also slow things down as they read parts of the files.

I've opened a new thread for another question that cropped up as a result of our attempts to fix this.

You're awesome Leo. We'll try these things once we get it back up and running.

So we did an uninstall/reinstall and used my license (see the other thread for details) and it's as fast as lightning now. Not sure what happened, as I seriously doubt you slow the product down for an eval (seems like that would be a good way to get people to NOT register...grin). He's exploring his options right now and I believe he will be uninstalling and going back to the eval so I can use my own license normally.

Now comes the fun of figuring out what option he selected to make that happen. He'd actually reverted to the base install at one point. Maybe another product overwrote something and it was corrected when he removed and reinstalled.

Thanks for the help!
