SMB advice, network transfers fails on certain ZIP files

Maybe someone could suggest where to dig to find reason.

Context.
SMB file transfers to NAS (Unraid (XFS)) fails when certain ZIP files are encountered.

  • Transfers hangs and crashes during MacriumReflect backups.
Write operation failed - An unexpected network error occurred.
  • Same happens when Copying these via DirectoryOpus. (Retry doesn't help much)
The specified network name is no longer available (64)
  • Explorer hangs, but manages to push files eventually. If not on first try, on Retry usually can.

To me the odd thing that if these "borked" zips are inside another ZIP. That big file transfer also will fail.

Moving those to 7Z, and issue is gone.

It really feels like during process those ZIP files are opened and processed like walking through folder.

If someone can suggest why this may happed, would appreciate help here.

If you're just copying a file, the content of it should not matter, unless antivirus is scanning it. I would look in that direction if it only happens with zip files and not other files of a similar size.

But if it's also affecting other things, like Macrium backups, then there's probably a network problem, and the server (or client) is dropping off the network when under load.

Problem here is that hardware things were checked and tested with various setups, and I came to point where certain odd files simply act differently compared to thousands of similar others.

So I though maybe someone could give a hint how to gather deeper logs in DO for example.
Because in Macrium logs are pretty plain without any details.

Here seems exactly same or really similar problem but on TrueNAS. https://www.truenas.com/community/threads/copying-odd-zip-or-msi-file-causing-smb-service-to-freeze.87066/
