Stop column width adjustment

I am using version 13.5, and I would like to stop the columns from auto adjusting. I would like columns to be the width I set them on exit.

Folder > Folder Format > Columns, to change the resizing mode.

Settings > Set Lister Defaults (and choose the option to include the folder format), to save them as the new defaults.

Leo,

I must be doing something wrong. No matter what I do, when I quit and restart DOpus, the first column (fine name) is huge to accommodate the longest title. It seems to auto resize, even though I have unchecked the auto resize box. I do not want the columns to resize.

I don't know how to get to the first set of menus you gave me. I just right-click on the top bar above the columns and then go to columns/resize. I don't see a place to click on Folder/Folder Format/Columns.

I did not have difficulty in setting the lister default to include folder format.

Change the width to fill or a fixed pixelsize, then click "Save..." and choose "Save format for all folders".

You are not alone.

Late reply yes, but this is my single biggest frustration with Directory Opus. I'm a long time user, paid for multiple PCs, and love the program. Except for this.

Please just consider giving us a setting to fix columns to the width we set while in the tab. If I resize the column for Name, then come back, it should stay that width.

I also am struggling to find the menus that are mentioned in this thread. There's no "Folder" area that I can find and Hardkorn's screenshot is... where?

Just trying to solve this simple problem. Sorry if I sound jaded.

The Folder menu is at the top of the main window, near the right.

Thank you.

I am using DOpus 13.19 x 64, build 9399. In this build and 13.18, I have not been able to get my display settings to apply to all directories, or to stick on exiting the program.

Specifically, I do NOT want columns to auto adjust in their width in any directory or folder. I usually keep the file name column wide enough to see enough of the file name to figure it out, or I will widen if I need to. I also want the columns displayed to consist of the following in this order: Name, modified, size, type , status, availability, attr. And I want everything but the first 3 to be very narrow (maybe 4 characters wide so I can see my big three).

• I have not been able to turn auto column width off and make it apply to all folders and stick on exit.

• I have not been able to make my adjustments to columns displayed apply to all folders and stick on exit.

• Notably, the Name column is 2 characters wide in some folders and back at auto width in others when I open Dopus; and the auto width is back on everywhere (at least making name too wide in most folders, as well as the type, status, availability, and attr columns which are much too wide),

• I find the on restart, Dopus also seems to forget I added SIZE as a column, and DO often ignores the order of the columns I want.

• Can you please give me guidance, and consider if there is an easy fix for these problems for guys like me without having to reset everything every time I open Dopus, or every time I download a new version?

Thanks.

Jim

Settings > Set Lister Defaults can save the current tab’s settings as the new defaults.
