Strange mouse behaviour

Hello,

For the past two weeks I have experienced the occassional strange behaviour - that I have now - through trial and error - traced to Directory Opus. I have been using Directory Opus 11.1 on Win 7 64 bit, on a realtively clean install.

With IT, you can presume I am an experienced power user... 30+ years experience, degree in computer science.

ISSUE:
Essentially, I would be using my computer normally, and at a certain point, the left mouse button would stop working within windows, forcing me to use keyboard shortcuts. This would make it so I couldn't left click on anything, and would be forced to use keyboard shortcuts in combination with the right mouse button.

DIAGNOSIS:
At first I thought this was related to the mouse hardware, but the issue persisted on multiple mice and the trackpad, across different drivers. In parallel, if I used CTRL, ALT, DELETE, the left mouse button would start working again. These rule out a hardware or driver fault.

I managed to restore mouse click functionality by using CTRL, ALT & DELETE to prompt windows to log-off and then cancel half way through. However, this was really frustrating!

So today, when this happened again, I stepped through all open programs and used keyboard shortcuts to close them one at a time. The issue persisted until I closed down all open instances of Directory Opus, at which point my computer started working normally again. This has cost me hours of frustration!

So - please can you inform me:

  • Why is this happening?
  • What must I do to fix this incredibly annoying issue?

This is probably the first report of this kind, so it is very unlikely to be an Opus issue. Are you using some security software, like firewall, HIPS ode anti virus?

Does the problem come back when you restart Opus?

When you exited Opus, what did you do exactly? Close the windows, use File > Exit Directory Opus, kill processes, or something else? (If you killed processes, which particular one seemed tied to the problem?)

If dopusrt.exe seems to be involved, rather than dopus.exe, then try turning off Preferences / Launching Opus / From the Desktop. That will remove the mouse hook used to do desktop double-click, which might be clashing with some other software on your system, perhaps. That's a long shot, and we've not had any other/similar reports, but other than that I can't think of any way in which Opus could have any effect on mouse behaviour outside of its own windows.

It might also help to say something about the mouse involved and any software that goes with it.

For example, if it is a Logitech mouse, is it running through SetPoint?
