I recently noticed with a JPG file, that adding tags didn't work, as far as finding them in Everything (and most likely similar tools) goes.
First i re-indexed ET, assuming that the indexing had to be updated. But in a second test my tags in those files still weren't found.
Then i made JPG screenshots of the images, tagged them, and now the added tags were found immediately. I conclude, that there has to be some kind of difference in the type of JPG made with some newer cameras, that prevents tags to be found in the usual way. Maybe someone here observed a similar effect?
Yes, that seems to be the case. I have just checked an image taken with my older Xiaomi Note 8T in 2020, and the tags will appear instantly in my Everything search. I don't think that JPG is actually a container format, but there has to be some kind of difference in JPGs from the newer smartphones.
Little update. Strange thing, it doesn't happen with images from my own Redmi 13 for some reason. I will investigate. I brought the strange behaving images here on my USB stick. But that shouldn't matter. Maybe our phones have different firmware? They should be the same by model names.
Nah! JPG is a 100% industry standard type of format with all the bits and pieces tightened down in a spec, which every manufacturer respects!.. o)
Well, I assume it's not.. o) It's probably the same mess as in all the other formats out there. Not even text files are standardized to this day, so what do you expect? o)
I suppose i can add them there, since i can click into that edit field. I didn't try it, because the tags are already there (added in Opus). But the relevant thing is, that for some unknown reason Everything would not find those two images, while it finds all other tags in JPGs, including those from the screenshot reproductions of the two images in question. Very strange indeed.
