Suddenly, user description cannot be applied to video files

Any ideas to why I can't set user description to videos? Suddenly stopped working overnight after the PC was shutdown and booted back up next morning. I don't think it's the video file because previous files set with DOpus can't be changed either. It appears to change the description but then when I navigate away from the folder and come back the description is gone. I didn't upgrade any software or anything like that, very strange.

Does it work if you use SetAttr Description from the command line? What i've seen here is, when i set the description from the meta panel, it doesn't show in the column. But i have to mention, that for me there always have been a confusion between Description, User Description and Comment (especially with the translations), so maybe i have tested the wrong type.

No that does not work.

"C:\Program Files\GPSoftware\Directory Opus\dopusrt.exe" /acmd SetAttr "file name.ext" META "comment:my comment"

I usually set it with the above or below methods depending if in or out of DOpus.

SetAttr DESCRIPTION

If it worked previously, it must be a bug then.

Can you set the description on the same files using anything else? E.g. The Properties dialog in Opus or Explorer.

I cannot change the Comment (or anything else within the description section) within the properties dialog details tab.

Ok so I did update codecs and video thumbnailer and I think this option was new and I had to uncheck it. I can change the description again!

Which codecs and video thumbnailers have you updated?

I guess the codecs were not updated but was the thumbnailer that caused this problem.

Icaros thumbnailer from 3.3.3 to version 3.3.4 beta 1

Part of K-Lite Codec Mega pack

This setting

is located in the Codec Tweak Tool then click the Various Tweaks button.

IPTC Description? No File Explorer field writes to the ITPC Description field.

No one mentioned IPTC Description in this thread.

In the Properties dialog, via files (in formats the Windows shell understands, at least) have a Comments field, on the Details tab, which I assume is the kind of thing the OP is trying to set on the file. That's what I would test can be changed.

(Although the cause of the problem has been solved now anyway, so I am not sure what the purpose of any of this is.)
