Sync-ing works great but, unlike the programs I've used in the past for this purpose, DO (I assume) will not allow me to safely eject the portable drive (even after 30 minutes) when the sync completes. Windows says another program is still using it.
Should I worry about this? I've just been un-hooking the drive after about 5 minutes.
It might be an issue with having a Dopus recents list enabled. I have evidence of it, but not proof.
It seems that when I clear my recents, it will release the usb drive.
Since I don't use it, I had to look up what/where a 'recents' list is. It's enabled in my options though. Maybe the developers can weigh-in on this behavior.
Lots of things can keep a drive in use. You may need to work out what causes it. E.g. Certain columns or thumbnails (which may involve shell extensions that are part of something else), or just having the drive open in a tab, or the folder tree open could be the factor, depending on what’s going wrong.
Process Explorer can let you see which process has a handle open on the drive (although it won’t tell you exactly why, or which DLL/EXE created the handle).
Well, after taking a look at Process Explorer I think that's way beyond my pay grade to decipher.
Previously, I was using a program called 'Goodsync' and I called and used it from a button within my DO lister. Nothing has changed other than instead of Goodsync I'm using DO's sync functionality, also as a button on the same lister, for the exact same backup. After Goodsync completed I could safely eject within seconds.... now... never. Is there some kind of 'release' or 'close' or 'stop' command I should append after the sync?
It's confusing. If I hook-up the drive, wait a couple of minutes without any activity, it safely ejects. If I run the sync, it doesn't. Beats me. Both instances have the same DO lister in the foreground.
For now I'm just going to wait a respectable time period to disconnect. Don't think it's a big deal, just puzzling.
It could be VoidTools Everything that is locking it too (probably only if 'monitoring' is enabled).
I've noticed being denied making file changes: "This file is being used in another program" and when I exit Everything and try the change again it works.
