Synchronise to DVD

I have a problem which is probably not related to DOpus, but I cannot find a solution and hope that someone here can suggest something. The problem is this:

I have a partition which is where I store files downloaded from the Internet. In case of hard disk failure, I want to back these files up to DVD by using the synchronise function in DOpus and InCD.

When I open the synchronise lister, I select the souce [hd] and detination [dvd] and press compare. Everything works fine. The DVD is blank so it reports that all files are to be copied to DVD.

Now is the strange part: after synchronisation has finished [and it works very well], if I do a repeated compare, it should show that there are no files to copy across. That's right, isn't it? What actually results is, in the destination lister panel, all files on the DVD show up, and in the black box before each file name there is a large red 'X' which is actually faded to pink. The synchroniser wants to copy all the files to DVD again.

What is causing this? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you.

There is a known issue that might come into play here. If it is the same issue, it has already been reported to GP Software.

Let me dig around and find my notes, because I participated in the discussion when the issue came up.

Okay, I found it.

Read through this thread, and see if it is similar to what you are experiencing.

Thanks Ken. I've read through most of that old post and I guess it must be similar. I'm trying to copy from an NTFS partition to DVD. I'll try it again with various options turned on and off and report back, probably tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

Cheers.

That issue I linked is not actually tied to a file format: NTFS DVD, etc.
At first I thought the issue had something to do with UDF file system (which I believe is what a InCD uses).

The issue has more to do with a bug in the Synchronize Utility. I posted a very detailed analysis latter in that thread which identifies the heart of the issue. I would recommend you try my test script and see if you get the same results.

Try it on a hard drive first (for performance), then try it on your DVD.

If you do get the same results, then you need adjust your settings, until Jon can fix the bug. If you have a different issue then report back and let's see what we can find out about it.
