Synology NAS server-side copy - does it work with Dopus13?

Hello everyone

One way or another I will get Dopus13. In general consider me an average user. So I am no pro or anything.

I have a couple of Synology NAS servers hooked up in a local network.

Will Dopus13 copy files faster when I:

  • Copy/move files within the same NAS?
  • Copy from NAS 1 to NAS 2?

I wondered if the server-side-copy will work out of the box in those cases?

Cheers,
Viggo from Denmark

It's a standard part of the SMB protocol, which File Explorer also uses, but not all NAS support it. You'd have to ask Synology (or just try it out).

for different synology models
this worked perfectly!
when copying/moving within (significantly faster)
and from nas to nas (more than double)

but it seems to depend on the DSM version!

do 13 was tested with the DSM versions
7.2-64570 to 7.2.1-69057 Update 4 (9 versions difference)
whether it behaves the same with older models with 6.x / 7.x
cannot be judged as many changes have been made to smb.

since the last 6.2 and the current 7.2, smb has been changed 5 times.

I have a small DS 419 Slim that I use for testing. It's running DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 5. Using Dopus 13.1 with no settings changed. I moved 12.5GB worth of files (10 files) from 1 folder to another and it happened instantly with no transfer to local computer first. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much everyone!

I will get v13 once I am back home and I look forward to it. Dopus it like a tattoo... it will follow me into death

I will also go back and confirm if it works and write all details down so other users might find the information useful.

Thanks again everying!

Copying a 11GB mp4 file to another folder within the same DS918+ (running DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 7) using DOpus 13.1.1 resulted in a transfer rate averaging 100MB/s (200 MB/s peaks at times), over a WiFi connection averaging 25MB/s.

So yes, server-side copy offloading within the same (Synology) NAS appears to work in my case.

I have 2 Synology boxes, can I use server-side offloading to copy/move files from 1 box to the other from my WIFI connected PC?
Thanks

It’s going to depend on the NAS, and probably isn’t the same for all Synology NAS. The best way to know is to try it and see.

File Explorer uses the same API, so you can see what speeds it gets in a given situation if you don’t already have Opus 13 installed.
