Synology: Some filenames in search results differ from actual filenames

I searched for a word in a folder tree
Most of the results were as expected.
However, some results were weird, like this:
e.g.: ZXM2GI~N.PDF (also see attached image)
the weird results did not include the search term, however, when I right-clicked on the weirdly named link, and opened the containing folder, the 'real' filename did include the search term.

wierd

Why is dopus displaying weird filenames?
How may I prevent this from happening?
I am concerned that in a moment of madness I may delete files with unrecognised names and so lose the associated valuable files.

Please show a screenshot of the whole window so we can see more context, e.g. which column that is and some filenames which aren't affected. It looks like it's showing Short Names for some reason, but that would depend on what the normal names look like.

What kind of drive are the files on that are doing this? Is it the local machine or a network drive? If a network drive, is it Windows or something else?

If you look at the same files in their actual folders, are their full names displayed?

There are less weird names now than there were ???

A Synology NAS
Full names displayed in their actual folder
I think Synology use a (bespoke?) version of Linux

The only way I can see it happening is if Synology are sometimes returning the short names when asked for directory listings. Which does seem to be a bug affecting some Synology devices, at least, from some random threads found via googling:

Updating the Synology software might fix things. Failing that, ask them for advice as it seems to be something they are doing wrong.

OK. Thank you

FYI. The problem does not appear when using Utility Panel - Advanced - Filters

It shouldn't make a difference, since the Simple panel's inputs are turned into a filter behind the scenes and it's ultimately the same code which runs in both cases.

Since it's happening and not happening randomly even in the cases you observed, and documented multiple times as a bug that has affected Synology's software/firmware without Opus being involved, I don't think it has anything to do with Opus at all.
