I am using several tabs which are locked, but folder changes allowed. Every time I click on a tab it will bring back the default locked folder - these are folders I am using often (e.g. Downloads, My Documents etc.) so I keep them as a reference point.
Because by default Opus changes the tab names showing the most recent folder, I have renamed the tab name to something relevant (e.g. Downloads) to keep the tab name fixed, so I can revert back to it quickly and know which one of the many tabs is that particular folder.
What I noticed, despite of giving these tabs unique custom names, from time to time they will change or become stuck with a different name, and to fix the "glitch" I have to restart Opus. It's annoying, so I guess it should be a bug.
Here is an example: folders 1 and 2
then folder 1 has changed to 2 and got stuck as 2 until next restart (although showing the content of 1)
The bug is seemingly random, occurs occasionally.
On a related note, some suggestions
It would be great to have an option to be able to keep the tab names "globally" frozen as a behaviour, instead of them changing based on the folder the user is navigating to.
It would be nice to be able to hide the tab folder icons altogether, in preferences, as this would be a useful space saving feature. Most of the time all these tabs folders have a generic folder icon anyway - quite pointless altogether. A preference in this regard would allow users who don't need these icons to hide them if they choose to.
By right clicking the tab name > Rename tab. I created a unique name different from the folder name to make them unique. E.g. for folder "1" the tab name is "1(space)" as the space is invisible yet different from the folder's real name. Maybe the space character is the issue, it's handled inconsistently by Opus? Just as a thought...
That would change the tab's name in the current window, but are you saving that change in any way?
After making the change, if you want it to be kept, you'd normally need to re-save the layout, tab group or default lister (depending on which you are loading the tabs from).
If you don't save the change, it may still be kept as part of automatically remembered state (depending on settings), but that state is more fragile than if you explicitly save it.
I have defined some tab groups initially, but because switching between them has a delay, I created a default lister configuration with 9 tabs on each side which contains most of my frequently used folders, allowing me to get the job done now without using tab groups.
What you're doing sounds correct, in that case. The tab names should remain there.
So you're seeing the "1 " tab take on the "2 " name from the tab to the right of it sometimes? Is it always that tab, and/or the name from the tab to the right of it, or is it more random?
Is this happening with 12.14, or an earlier version?
Just in case: Presumably no scripts are installed that modify tab names.
I have the latest beta version installed. I think this happened last in 12.13. As I remember, it's not always changing "1 " to "2 ". I saw 2 changing to a different name; I did not document that with screenshots.
I probably use 2 a lot more than the other folders as it is a large folder containing client data I browse or modify every day. So any glitches might become more obvious to me there.
I did not notice whether this name takeover is from left to right or between adjacent tabs. It seems to me that sometimes the name might change to a subfolder or to a recently used folder. I will keep an eye on this and will try to document when this occurs. But in the past 2 weeks I think it happened to me 3-4 times I think, I already know if I close and re-open Opus (loads the default lister), the problem will go away and the tabs function correctly until it eventually reoccurs again.
Re scripts: I have some of them, but I don't think I use them often, they are shown below, these are all.
