Tagging Photos - I Just Noticed

I came across something by chance which is incredibly handy to me but I hadn't known before. It might be useful to others.

If you are copying pictures from your camera's SD/ CF card to your computer, double click on any picture file and it will come up in the Dopus standalone viewer. If you now right click on the picture you will see the option 'Tag File'. Select this and the folder from which the file came will switch to check box mode with that picture tagged.

You can now go through the source folder by clicking on the 'next' or 'previous' arrow, tagging or not the pictures. Now close the viewer and there are your selected pictures. It is a very efficient way of doing a triage, rejecting the fuzzies, for example, rather than copying everything and having them cluttering up the hard drive. The big advantage is that you are making your selection based on full screen viewing rather than from thumbnails. You can do the tagging by ctrl+t if you prefer.

Sorry if everyone knows this, I just stumbled on it.

Yes, that's a great feature, which i use very often. Btw, you can go through the pictures in full view mode or other modes, using "Ins" to tag them.
A "check" sign will apear in full mode, or in the other mode some "*" will appear before the file name.

Following code is useful, to switch from checkbox mode back to normal selection:

@ifset: CHECKBOXMODE=Toggle Select FROMCHECKS Set CHECKBOXMODE=Off @ifset:else Select TOCHECKS

That's an awesome feature... I never it existed until now, thanks :slight_smile:

Thamks abr....even better.

You guys should try looking at the manual sometime :slight_smile:

Is tagging images through viewer pane possible yet?
Would be splendid if the picture viewer could be docked into opus next to file display just like the viewer pane.
Clicking on the viewer pane should set focus on the viewer pane and then hotkeys specific to viewer pane should overrule. Hitting Ctrl+T would tag image. Then clicking on lister would activate its own hotkey for Ctrl+T whatever that is assigned to.

If you're viewing normal pictures in the viewer pane, it never takes focus itself - so you can just press space to toggle the current file's checkbox on or off.

That's right. But the viewer pane doesn't limit to image files except for the slideshow function. Getting hex view in between images is a bit distracting. There is a "scroll with left mouse button" option though it doesn't do anything for images. Wheel scroll in viewerpane to cycle through images only (with option to toggle) would be nice. In addition there could be a checklist which files are going to be shown and which skipped when using the wheelscroll.

True but I have a life :laughing:

I don't read it so much, because i don't want to give away all the surprises. :wink:
