Three button button mouse icons not visible

I have set a button to be a three button button.

but I do not see the mouse icons, such as these

Nothing appears when I hover over the button. The left, right and middle mouse buttons carry out the correct actions but but without the mouse icons I can't see the labels listing what the buttons do.

What setting needs to be adjusted.? TIA

Do you see tooltips for any toolbar buttons or menu items, or are they not appearing for any of them?

If they don't appear for any buttons, you probably turned them off in Preferences / Toolbars.

Thanks. I had to deselect "Only with key held down:" to see the mouse icons on hovering over the button.
