Thumbnail styles merge distortion

The thumbnail styles merge is stretching the folder thumbnail (not the overlay) with some settings. Also seems to be aligning left instead of centering.
Perhaps a maintain aspect ratio option.

Am I right that this is included in your larger thread about Thumbnail Styles: Still working on Styles?

It looks like it's one of the cases in the other thread, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something subtle, so we don't overlook it if it's different..

This issue is the first post, should have continued.
Works better in V13.0.39, maintaining aspect ratio with all merge settings, but doesn't address if the user wants a stretched image ?

I like the auto-stretch for all the situations, where you don't want to spend time and money on exact aspect crops of the thumbnail images - it gets the job done more quickly and you don't end up with unwanted black borders or something. This is gone now?

If aspect is to be expected way off, maybe it would be nice to be able to force the aspect ratio? Maybe some kind of auto detection, if within x% "off", stretch it, if not keep aspect and use a fill color (both to be chosen in the thumbstyle)? Maybe this is over the top.. not sure! o)

But not having the auto-stretch available at all is some kind of step backward from my perspective.

It still stretches the images. What changed is it crops them if the aspect ratio doesn't match, instead of distorting them.

For example, using this rectangular cover for a CD thumbnail:

folder

Now results in this:

2023-10-19 12-35-51 Clipboard Image

Instead of this:

2023-10-19 12-36-02 Clipboard Image

Of course, with most CD covers, it would only crop out a few pixels now, and the distortion before would have been too small to notice. But when the aspect ratio is really mismatched, like in this example, there's a big difference.
