After playing with the Toolbar customizability, it occurred to me that an Opus toolbar would make a great replacement for the Windows "Start" button menu.
There's plenty of alternate start bars out there (like Start10 or Start X), but honestly, Dopus has everything necessary to completely replace it.
Hello, as I´m changed to WIn11 2 weeks ago and found how horrible MS has changed the Start Menu design I played around with Windhawk Start menu styler. It works good, but can not comlete replace the functionality of the Win10 Start menu. So I would like to ask you to show how you designed your start menu with the help of Dopus. Did you do it with Floating Toolbars? How do you keep the Start button in the foreground? Thanks a lot in advance.
Thank you very much. I had a look at StartAllBack. It seems, that this program does not support the Win10 Start menu tiles. I used it to sort all my programs into categories. I think I will try to design a Start menu replacement with dopus (if I have some time;)
If you’re talking about a StartButton replacement (not a floating menu), then I’ve been using OpenShell for a long time and it’s really good. Plus it runs fine on win11
For a popup menu, yeah, I didn’t really like Dopus’s abilities in that respect and ended up using FlowLauncher. It’s not super customizable like Opus would be but it IS very customizable and does everything I was looking for anyway.
I bought Stardock Start11 a while ago. It works really well and you can set it up the way you want it. Not expensive either. You can try it for a while before you buy too. The advantage is that it can use Everything's database just like Dopus can. So the search is lightning fast.
I've been thinking about making a start menu of opus toolbars but there are some things missing to make it look nice and good. I have a small floating toolbar in the right corner where I have the programs I use the most. I usually don't maximize the windows in the programs so I see it all the time.
