Two Dopus instances, one shows AppData, the dother doesn't

Two instances of Dopus. One shows AppData, the other doesn't. I launch the Dopus instance that shows AppData by using Voidtools Search Everything to show all AppData folders and clicking on the table entry whose path entry is C:\Users\User. (Dopus is set as my default file manager.) I launch a second Dopus instance by left-clicking on the Windows 10 desktop and selecting C: drive, then the Users folder, then the User folder. This instance does not show AppData,

Why does this disparity occur? How to avoid it?

See if you have hidden folders turned off in Preferences / Folder Tree / Contents. AppData is marked as hidden (indicated by the faded icon) so if hidden folders are turned off it will only be shown in the tree if it's needed (e.g. if you actually navigate to it).

hidden folders

"Subject to global filters" is the key: It's probably hidden by those, which is also why it isn't shown in the file display.

You can toggle that filter via the Folder menu ("Show hidden files"), or via Preferences / Folders / Global Filters.

If you navigated into AppData or a folder below it in one of the windows, that would be why it was added to the tree there.

I see the AppData folder now. Unchecking "Hide hidden files" in Preferences / Folders / Global Filters seems to have done the trick. Thank you for your help.

The red 'X' badge on Folders / Show Everything seems to be permanent. The green check mark badges on Folders / Show Hidden / Files and Folders / Show System Files also seem permanent, regardless whether their corresponding entries in Preferences / Folders / Global Filters are checked. What do these three badges badges indicate?

Those menu items are just shortcuts to change the corresponding Preferences settings.

I meant to ask, what do the three badges on the icons indicate?

Which badges/icons do you mean?

Apologies. My query was unclear. I mean the badges on the circled icons in the attached screenshot.

They're just part of those icons, and mean "no" and "yes", essentially. One clears all filters. The other two show things with the S and H attributes.

thanks a lot.
