I am unable to copy-paste from a stored query/search results lister to a virtual machine running on VMware Workstation 12.5.5. Opening the source directory for a file and copy-pasting from there works correctly. Explorer does not seems to have a problem copy-pasting from a search result list.
Steps to reproduce:
Open a stored query or search result.
Select a file.
Ctrl+C.
Go to the VM.
Paste.
Result: either nothing is pasted or the previous copied file is pasted (if any were on the clipboard before trying to copy from the search results).
Update: I tested with the trial of VMware Workstation 14 and the issue persists.
Makes me think it is related to the virtual machine I am using, I will make some more tests later with the VMware Tools installed/not installed/updated on the guest.
VMware often doesn't notice clipboard changes until they're done a second time, in my experience. I don't know if that might be what's happening here as well but it seems possible if it is pasting the file that used to be in the clipboard instead of the one which now is. (I usually notice it with text data, and use drag & drop to copy files to the vm rather than copy & paste.)
I went to test drag and drop and it worked, as did copy-paste this time. Then I tried another virtual machine and the problem with copy-paste form search results was back again.
My guess now is that its VMware's fault. Maybe related to resuming a virtual machine (what I usually do), instead of booting it from zero. But still seems weird that copy-paste would work from a normal directory and not from search results.
