Undo Redo

Could we get an alternate undo system, please. We could enable it in the settings.
Whenever the "undo" command is called it would always take one step back, never undoing itself. There would be a separate "redo" which would always take one step forward. These two things can have their own hotkeys, buttons etc.

This would be for those of us who are used to having undo/redo. In FL Studio I have undo/redo on a ticky encoder knob, so I can tick it either way to quickly hop around my history, as an A/B compare.

File management doesn't really need that much undo ability but casual users could benefit from a three-button undo button. Left click: Undo, Right click: Redo, Middle Mouse Button: History. But either way, this alternate system would be for us who are used to it in other software.

This reasoning for why it works this way has been discussed in older threads, and probably won’t change. Undoing the very last action via hotkey makes sense with file management, but undoing older actions via hotkey wouldn’t. Makes sense in a text or image editor, but not in a file manager.

For undoing older actions, use the Undo panel or menu, so that you can see which action you’re actually undoing, and also skip over actions that can’t be undone (e.g. because the things they acted on no longer exist).
