Unexpected Rename/Move/Delete

I'm seeing a real issue with the way files are selected/deselected on the desktop that is causing unintentional and unexpected rename, move, and other file operations because files are remaining selected when they should not.

Basically, what I'm seeing is that, if I have an icon/file/folder already selected on the desktop, and then click-drag another (e.g., click and drag, not click then drag) the other previously selected item is coming along for the ride. This may also be the case when renaming a file, so a previously selected item is also renamed when I right-click/rename another. Unfortunately, it's not consistent and so it is difficult to reproduce, but it's becoming scary given the alarming frequency with which it is occurring. Most alarming is that I could unintentionally be throwing away entire folders and not realizing it. Don't think it's happened yet, but it's a grave concern.

This is a Win8.1 machine.

It sounds like you may have switched into Power mode. If you switch back to Details does the behavior return to normal?
